In order to get an industry referral, you practically need to be born into certain inner circles. You need to be related to someone, or have parents who are dear friends with certain people.
It helps to have attended Harvard Westlake, sure.

But new people without birthright connections break in on a regular basis.

There's a difference between more difficult and impossible.

There are venues besides Hollywood where you can tell stories and connect with an audience.

Everyone doesn't get to play ball in the major leagues. Even really good ball players can top out at single A or double A.

I have absolutely no respect for you selfish cause. I think it's pathetic.
Who said your respect matters at all? The law matters, the evidence matters, and what the government thinks matter.

I don't get this....

You can't hire somebody who doesn't apply for or want the job. Just because one kid has no friends doesn't mean that the teacher should cancel recess. And just because the burger guy didn't show up to work, doesn't mean BurgerWorks can take a guy from a bench and say "Work".

Like it was said before, you are trampling on their right to choose who they want to work for. Whenever a person applies for a job, that person makes sure that the employer is legit and that is what agencies are doing when they ask for recommendations, accreditations, etc.

At some point you have to learn to adapt to your environment and the climate of the industry. If someone says rom/coms are no longer going to be made, then don't write rom/com.

There are many ways to get referrals without networking in Cali, trust me. Darwin said it best....

I'm proud to be the first discriminatory rep to chime in here.

Damn right we discriminate. Constantly. Vigorously. As a basic tenet of professional conduct. And we're damn proud of it. And we will continue to do so. Vigorously.

We discriminate to separate talent-less (or just plain lunatic) wannabe's from dedicated, proven (or just plain promising) writers. And we will continue to do so through all legal means necessary.

And here's the big news for you NYNEX--the policies you believe you are challenging in some legally novel or innovative way have already been vigorously reviewed and vetted in complete cooperation and compliance WITH THE EEOC. In fact, one of our attorneys has an especially close relationship with the agency...and they're more than familiar with your particular brand and tactic of crank lunacy.

And that letter you received that's so emboldened and encouraged you, the one that indicates the EEOC has accepted and are looking into your complaint? It's what they call a "form response." It's triggered by any complaint-toned contact.

Bottom line is, I am quite certain you are being discriminated against by quality reps, NYNEX. At least, I certainly hope so. Want to know why?

Because we're dedicated to discriminating against talent-less (or just plain lunatic) wannabe's. Through all legal means necessary.

You're right. The law does matter.

The only problem with your stance on this issue completely ignores laws protecting the agency's rights.

They have rights, too, and they have the right to say "no". Period.

Forcing them to take your pitches is a violation of their rights. There is no other way around that.

Your stance is completely one sided and totally unfair.

All that is beside the point, though. I think everyone here knows the real reason why you're doing all this.

It's NOT about rights or freedom or anything like that.

You're angry because somebody told you "no". And you feel entitled to more than that. You feel you're owed something more.

I'm sorry, but you're not.

Your noble crusade isn't about anything other than *YOU*.

It is a completely selfish endeavor to take away the rights of others to satisfy your own ego.

Period.

Darryl's response reminds me of a great third-act speech where the audience in the movie theater cheers when they hear it.

Add my applause to the list. This is truly the stupidest ploy to get read that I have ever heard. Spend less time finding loopholes and more time writing.

I swore I wouldn't come back to this thread after yesterday but now I really mean it.

Hopefully.
