Okay folks, this just got more serious. I'm teaming up with Mike Le (The White Album) to really make this worthwhile for you. But we NEED SUBMISSIONS. This contest WILL NOT HAPPEN unless we get at least 75 entrants (to be capped at 100). So here's what I want you to do.
If you're interested in joining the competition, e-mail me AT THIS ADDRESS: CarsonReeves1@gmail.com. Just a confirmation along with your DoneDeal nickname. Not your script yet. That is the only way I will officially count you (so if you confirmed in the earlier thread, do it again here with an e-mail). I'll update you with where we're at and how many more people we need as time goes by. This will not happen with less than 75 people, so start confirming! p.s. Haven't decided on an actual contest deadline yet. But it probably wouldn't be for another month, maybe two. So you have time to polish those scripts. Here's Mike: Dear Done Dealers, I actually just met with Wilsoneads today and I gotta say, he's a stand-up guy who is really passionate about screenwriting and the craft. He has good taste and I have total confidence in him with organizing this contest. In fact, I would like to help him raise the stakes of this contest. After Wilsoneads reads all the entries and narrows it down to the top 5 -- another executive and myself will read those -- and collectively (with Wilsoneads) we will pick a winner. The winner will then receive a personal referral to one of the top 5 agencies (William Morris, UTA, ICM, CAA, or Endeavor). No one will know which agency until the winner is announced, but obviously you can't go wrong with either of those. Simultaneously, the winner will also get a personal referral to a reputable literary manager, to also be announced with the winner. Good luck. EDIT: MORE GOOD NEWS I've spoken with Goosetown (Geoff LaTulippe) and he's agreed to offer something as well. Read on below... So I saw the thing about your screenwriting contest. I think that's a pretty selfless, pretty kickass thing of you guys to do. If you'll have me, as an added bonus for your contest, I'll offer the following: I'll do an in-depth analysis (detailed notes, essentially) of the top three scripts. For the second and third-place finishers this will hopefully just be helpful overall, but for your winner it can amount to a guide to a polish before they actually put it in front of an agent. Even if it's a great script, it can't hurt. So there ya go. It keeps getting better.

I just don't see how we can get 75 entrants just from our little corner of the web.

It might be tough. We'll see what happens. There are over 600 active members on DD. So it's possible.

There was 1,225 views on the original post, so there is hope...
C'mon peeps, who wouldn't want to enter a contest with only 99 other competitors, as opposed to the 1000's in other places? Start emailing already!

This could go either way really. Since I posted this an hour ago I've received 10 confirmations. So this very well may fill up fast.
In that case, everyone after 100 will be considered an alternate, allowed in only if someone else doesn't enter.

15 in so far an hour after I posted it. You very well might have to hurry.

15 sign-ups in the first hour. You might want to move quickly people.

Wilson --
What's the deadline? I ask because I really rather enter one of my 3 recent scripts -- all of which are in different stages of completion. If it's a couple weeks out I can probably finish one. The more I think about it, I don't want to enter any of the older scripts. |
