I was going to say the same thing.

The Wire, Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, The Sopranos, The Shield, Deadwood, and pretty soon...Lost. All done with.

TV today can't compare to TV when all those shows were pretty much running simultaneously. THAT was the golden age of TV.

Once Lost goes off, Dexter will officially be the best show on television. Well, until I finally get around to Mad Men.

Lost will be the first show I truly watched from beginning to end. Nearly 6 years I will have been with it... Damn, that's a long time. And I can remember the first time I ever heard about it. I was doing my homework in the family room, and the TV was on. I heard a promo with people running and screaming -- something about a monster. I never looked up, because I literally thought it sounded stupid. After the pilot eps aired, a guy at my bus stop told me about a show where people crashed on a deserted Island. Since I loved that kind of stuff (Robinson Crusoe, etc.), I KNEW I had to check it out. I fell in love with starting at Tabula Rasa. And literally, that show gave me a blank slate.

I wouldn't be writing if it weren't for Lost. I don't know if I would still be alive. High school was hell for me, and Lost was really the only thing that kept me pushing through. I know it's silly, but it's true. I just had to see how it ended.

It's going to be sad when it ends. And, yeah, I agree that the Golden Age will probably officially end with it. But I'll be happy with it, because that show gave me life. It showed me purpose...

You misspelled Breaking Bad.

No I didn't.

I like Breaking Bad, but never finished the second season. I got distracted by the 49 other shows I had to try to keep up with. Every season a new show falls by the wayside. It gets very difficult to catch up. I will get to it eventually. Dunno for sure when, though. It's not at the top of my list of priorities.

I used to watch about 6 hours of TV a day. Now I don't get that much in. I blame this forum for all that.

STOP DISTRACTING ME BIOHAZARD!!!

Ahem...

you youngins are all wrong. the golden age of tv has long since gone. it has nothing to do with the quality of writing and storytelling but it was a time when everybody and every family got together with their tv dinner to watch their shows... a major event.

You put Project Runway on there but not American Idol?

If nothing else, American Idol should be on there because it was somewhat fresh when it started and consistantly tops ratings.

I kind of hate the fact that television shows are putting out such quality nowadays. I can't resist watching and it eats up way too much of my time. Couple that with Call of Duty, and I become a bona fide couch potato.

TV now reminds me of how movies were in the early-90's - cutting-edge stuff funneling the zeitgeist right into my living room.

I honestly find myself spending more on TV DVD/Blu-ray sets than I do on new-release movies. Not hard when I looked at the shelf this Christmas season and saw stacks of Terminator Salvation, Wolverine, Twilight, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Night of the Museum 2.

In fact, other than Taken, Inglorious Basterds and Star Trek, I've bought very few movies on Blu-ray over the past few months.

I don't buy much of anything and rent because I'm a poor college student. I will say I got hooked on Big Love, Rome, Weeds, Entourage because i checked out the season episodes from the public library. I think that DVD/Blu-Ray sets are a godsend for those without premium cable/Sattelite TV.

I have to get ahold of season 3 of Big Love since I've seen the first two seasons and was hooked. Also have to catch up on season 4 and 5 of Weeds of course.

I think there are some good shows out there of course. I have gone back to watching TV Shows. I love Cougar Town and Modern Family. And I caught the season finale of Breaking Bad. I also like Mad Men, and my favorite show is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Lost may be leaving, but there is still season 5 of Friday Night Lights, hopefully more seasons of Dexter, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, AMC's the Walking Dead *fingers crossed*, 3 more seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philly at the least, some guilty fun in True Blood, probably a heartbreaking tragedy of Big Love's final season, more Modern Family and Glee, maybe we'll get lucky with Caprica, and more. Like Survivor - Heroes vs. Villains.

Ah, I needed to write that. I've been freaking out about the end of Lost.

I have a feeling a lot of people are freaking out about Lost. The last really big show to get a complete ending on broadcast TV was Will & Grace, I think. That, along with Friends, was a staple in primetime television, just as Lost has been. Because let's be honest here, go to any site that focuses on TV, and you will find more articles about Lost than any other. No conversation about modern television is complete without its mention. It's pretty hard to deny how huge this show has been, both for pop culture, and in the history of the TV arena. It rewrote the book of TV writing in enormous ways. By this time next year, the gaping hole left by its absence in ABC's schedule will be as apparent as that of the hatch after being blown away in an explosion of electromagnetic energy. It really is sad to see something so beautiful go...
