Online Hollywood Creative Directory question

Is the online Hollywood Creative Directory still the best online guide to producers and execs? Or is there a better resource out there?

Hope this thread gets a few more replies because I'm interested in a few opinions, but would also like to add in: What are the major advantages between using the HCD online and actually ponying up the money for Studio System? Can anyone who has maybe used both comment on this?

I would say imdbpro is the best by my experience (never Done Deal's pay service).

It not only provides you with invaluable contact information, but everything is linked together. You can look at a agent/manager's clients to see if maybe they are a good fit for what your peddling, how many clients they have etc...

From a producer stand point its linked to all the movies they have done, what company they are for even if their company is attached to a studio. It makes it easy to pick and choose whether they are worth your time to even try and query, after all do you really want to be the dummy that sends a male ego driven, testosterone filled action flick to a company that only produces girly rom com's?

I have both, and I almost never use hcdonline. Imdbpro almost always pulls up the info I need, and if it's not there, it's rare that I find it on hcdonline.

For rounding up contact info for managers/agents I use a combination of IMDBPro, TrackingB, DDP, and my crazy mad google skillz. IMHO, if you can't find someone's email address through those means, then they don't exist.

I hope you haven't used us and had a bad experience. Are/were you simply noting you just have never used our service? Or is there some ominous warning in the comment in parentheses?

Either way and as I've always noted in regards to DickDaring's question, a bigger service such as IMDBpro or HCD is going to be better updated than we are for company contact info, for example, since they have so many more people working for them than we surely ever will. I've never used either of their services, but from what I know about them HCD is strictly contact info (address, staff names, etc.) where as IMDBpro has contact info plus credits, projects in development, etc.

Really depends on what your budget is and what info you need exactly.

As for service like Studio System, in the vast majority of cases, it's really something only the studios and companies can afford. Lots of great info from what I've always understood -- I know some of the guys that work there -- but it's more for folks with a real overhead.

Just signed up for a month of Hollywood Creative Directory online. I did so because their description touted "email addresses".

The first company I try, no email addresses.

The second company, no email addresses.

When I called their support line the woman told me that they do have emails on "60% - 70%" of their list. But even these are mostly general emails, not individual.

Live and learn.

Thanks for the update. I've always had the feeling that HCDonline is probably not that good.

When I'm ready, I'm going IMDBpro all the way.
