B) Did these people also employ maids?

C) Haunted houses aren't real.

1 season, tops.

Enjoy it while you can.

I hate when writers write what is "convenient" for the plot at the expense of plot, story, common sense. Give the audience some credit.
Preaching to the choir.

Stupid people doing stupid stuff just to keep the story moving.

Drives me nuts.

So I take it you don't watch a lot of movies or television?

Lazy writing has been around forever.

Being that this is a writing forum, pointing out bad writing and coming up with solutions to avoid or fix it should be encouraged.

The big problem with the show, why are they still in the house?

The audience was given half-assed reasons. The mob with torches and pitchforks is now angry.

This is something that should have been nailed down from the beginning.

Brainstorming off the top of my head, let's say one of the major characters is on house arrest/probation. BAM. Done. They can't leave.

Not only have I just made one of the characters a lot more interesting, nobody will question why they are still in the house and we aren't having this discussion.

I'm not sure how essential bankruptcy is a "half-assed" reason. Nor the best interest of your unborn child...or current child. They seem like fairly legitimate reasons to me.

I thought the last two episodes were very good. It currently holds a pretty solid 7.7 user score on Metacritic, so I think the alleged "mob" upset with the show is more like a PETA protest outside of the Circus.

We should all be as content and peaceful as Kirk Cameron.

If they're hurting so bad, why are they keeping the maid? Something has to give.

And the best interest of their unborn child would probably be to get out of that haunted & violent house. The "oh, well you can't move while you're pregnant, silly" thing is ridiculous. That's right, so the ridiculously taxing process of hiring movers to take all your stuff and drop it in another place and going living there is bad for the baby - but living in a house where you and your daughter were almost just slaughtered is A-OK.

To me, the telling thing is - if the writer's themselves thought the financial reason was convincing enough, they would've left it at that. They wouldn't have brought in the contrived scene with the doctor telling them not to move. They wouldn't have the daughter say she would run away if they moved. They wouldn't have brought in all these other half-assed reasons if they thought the financial issue was enough.
