I'm still not in the league of a repped writer (who is later on ignored by his reps), but I have been plugging along slowly, steady in my Out of Hollywood town.
It's said many times that to get along in life is to have the right connections, well that is sometimes true. Some time ago I was asked to develop an animation script for a small amount of money. I started the really cool project and only got through the outline stage. The producer had some personal setbacks and the project stalled. I was bummed, but what can you do? Fast forward 2 years and this same producer is talking to another producer and that guy is annoyed that his present writer/director is not taking his project seriously. This is were my old producer recommended me. Gave me one hell of a recommendation. Probably because I was always professional and never got upset that our project had stalled. So now I will co-write a feature and I will also be the Director. It's quite an opportunity. So, what to take away from this? You never know where a lead may come from so stay classy the whole time. And while waiting for the smallest of breaks, keep on writing and in my case keep on directing. My producer viewed all of my previous shorts and loved what he saw. So, I am glad I didn't let the rejections from Queries and/or film festivals get me down. I just plugged away. This present opportunity is for a low-low budget feature, but I hope this will be the first of many features I direct and or write. NEVER GIVE UP OR GIVE IN...
