After going to FedEx Office, Target, the dread Wal-Mart and even WalGREENS...There is apparently not a SINGLE brass brad to be had in all of Minneapolis past 10 pm...Much less TWO. Seriously...What the HELL, Minnesota?!?
Guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have better luck at Officemax, Office Depot or Staples. I HATE WAITING. |

I ended up having to order from Amazon. They're a bitch to find in places other than Los Angeles or New York, I'm guessing.

You don't find them anywhere outside the Los Angeles area. At least, that is my impression after hearing this same story for over ten years on Done Deal.
You can order them, as already suggested. IMPORTANT: You want only Acco brand, #5 size. Acco brads are tougher, according to what everyone has advised through the years. The #5 refers to the length of 1 1/4". I honestly don't know whether people in the industry really use washers with them or not. The washers keep the brads from digging into the edges of the punched holes in the paper. A washer, if you don't know, is a little brass disk with a slot in each for the brad to pass through. The washers are on the back of the script.

My mom ordered them one time as a gift. They literally took months to come in.

Just click here for the brads and washers. And don't forget the rubber hammer for only $3.95!
You use it to tap down the brads tightly on the back of the script. You can get supplies from the Writers Store pretty quickly. Don't get the Chicago screws ... though they ought to be neat for binding permanent copies of scripts for yourself.

I find them at arts & crafts stores. Some people use them (I don't know how) for scrapbooking and other things.

The problem with making a long search and then maybe finding a box of some kind of brads is that they almost certainly will not be No. 5 size Acco brand. Some brads are too short for a standard script; others are too long.
It's simpler just to order them. Brads $9.99 for a box, washers $5.99 per box. I don't know about shipping costs, but it couldn't be much. And don't forget the rubber hammer for $3.95. ![]()

I found a small store in San Francisco which sells individual brads. I would wipe them out every once in a while. The owner used to get pissed that i was taking all of them. She finally ordered a box for me and told me not to come back (she said it with a smile, but I think she was serious).

Do people even use paper anymore? I can't remember ever being asked to submit a hard-copy of a script.

I've actually had the same box for 3 years. I don't even remember the last time I sent a hard copy out. But the box is there, just in case.
