Default PDF Conversion

Okay, I want to create PDF files. I downloaded one freeware package (PDFill Tools) which required MSJava. It worked, but when I installed MSJava, all my other java apps crashed.

Then I tried Go2PDF and WinPDF which which were both free. However, they left advertisements at the bottom of each page.

Finally I tried CutePDF. I had to download GhostScript to go with it which is fine. What I want to know is if anyone has had any unforeseen problems with the CutePDF PS printer driver. I had to system restore to fix PDFill's damage. It seems to work. I can make PDF files from any Windows document, but I don't want any unpleasant surprises like with PDFill. Anybody else use this program?

Get primopdf, no water marks, no ad-ware, no spy-ware and no additional downloads. It is simple to install and simple to use. Check the PDF thread for more info.

I used to use PDF995 (no spy-ware or watermark - just a webpage that pops up at the end of the PDF generation)

However, I've now changed to FreePDF XP. (freepdfxp.de/)
You don't need XP for it (despite the name), and it doesn't pop up a webpage ad at the end.

The best feature is an 'add to next printout' button, so that the title page & script body get concatenated into a single PDF file automatically.

Whatever you do - do not use the built in PDF Conversion feature of Final Draft. It produced a bloated 4MB monster file from a 118 page script! (Compared to a 332kB PDF file from 'FreePDF XP'.

I'm on a Windows2000 machine, so results may vary...

A list of PDF printers (and much more) is available at https://rnvs.informatik.tu-chemnitz.de/twiki/bin/view/Main/FreePdfUtilitiesAndLibraries

It looks as if there are actually two versions available: one for Windows 2000/XP and another for some earlier versions of Windows.

Here is the link to freepdfxp versions.

There you will also find a link to GhostScript 8.14, which you need on your machine. (You have to use version 8.14!)

I have not tried freepdfxp.

I have used primoPDF and like it. It has no ads, etc. But I do not think the free version of it will join two files into one PDF. There is an inexpensive version of it that will do these things.
