Default Attaching actors

I have a pilot script that I would like to attach an actor to. Would this affect any possible deals with production companies? Is this advisable?

Default Re: Attaching actors

Will is affect future deals? Yes.

If it's an actor they want to work with, it might hep.

If it's an actor they don't want to work with, it WILL hurt.

An inopportune attachment can kill a script. It's part of a producer's job because knowing stuff like what networks are interested in what actors for what sort of roles is part of a producer's job. If you aren't on the pulse of that, you're going to hurt your project.

The flip side is that a lot of pilots are selling as parts of packages these days. So yes, the right actor can really help. But:

The actors who can help you aren't going to attach themselves to a script by someone without a track record who doesn't have a producer attached. They know that their attachment is valuable, and also potentially a commitment. Anybody you can get as someone who is asking this question on DDP (with all that implies about your level of connectedness/experience) is probably not someone who is going to help you, although there are possible exceptions.
