Default Movie Magic Screenwriter symbols?

Does anyone know how to insert symbols into a Movie Magic Screenwriter script? Something similar to the way Word has an Insert Symbol function, which even allows you to create new symbols?

Thanks for any ideas.

I don't know and I can't imagine why you would want to in a script unless you are talking about inserting the copyright or registered symbols. I know how to do it in Scriptware but I have no idea how to do it in MM.

You mean something more sophisticated than the Tools / Character Set option?

Steve, I do not think you can. I took a look at the program just now to see if I could figure out a way.

You are limited in what you can do for the reason that you can only use one font for each element (e.g., Action, Dialogue, etc.). Courier and most fonts will include ANSI characters, with the copyright symbol, paragraph symbol, section symbol, foreign characters, and so forth, but wingding symbols like a clock or a hand or something like that are not part of the Courier font. I guess you could load Wingdings as your font for an element (e.g., Action), but it would not work for screenwriting, since it only consists of symbols.

In a true word processor (word processors today are almost full-fledged desktop publishing programs) you can do things like you are talking about.

To access the symbols available in Courier, click on Tools | Character Set. You will see a table of characters and symbols. Click the one that you want. Then click the Select button, then the Copy button. Go back to your script and paste it at the place where you want it. You can do this for lots of typographic symbols, but not for wingdings.

NOTE: You can paste symbols into the text in Final Draft. You do it there by typing the character that corresponds to the symbol in Wingdings that you want. For example, 'e' in Wingdings 1 produces the astrological symbol for Scorpio. You can type an 'e' in Courier, then highlight the 'e' and select Format | Font | Wingdings 1. This will convert the 'e' into the symbol.
