Hello all,
I have an idea for a children's program and am currently finalizing the treatment, but had a couple questions and was wondering if someone could help me out. First of all, what should the treatment include? As of right now, it has character descriptions, format (do I need to have a synopsis in here?), prevelence and bio sections. Am I missing anything? Do I need to include anything else other than a treatment for consideration from a PBS-producing station? I'm asking this because they take projects at any level of development, but I want to know what a "standard" submission might be Secondly, what is the proper format for submission with the treatment? Do I send a cover letter and what should I include; or do I send something more like a query letter where I am trying to grab the attention of the reader? If anyone can give me any insight on this, I would really appreciate it!! Thanks in advance! Jody |

Have everything ready and just query for now. They will request things if they're interested.
I support PBS as an actual member and appreciate quality children's programming. Good luck. |

For a PBS kids show you're probably thinking of something with a lot of different elements..
It's kind of an idiosyncratic thing because those shows aren't pitched in terms of story, but in terms of the 'science of learning' and all the latest greatest theories for how to imprint kids with rudimentary math and reading knowledge. ...however I would hazard a guess that you might want to try to highlight what distinguishes your show from the other shows. -Bart (Screenwriter who learned to read by watching Sesame Street) |
