I wrote a screenplay in English, in which characters for the most part speak Spanish, except for a bunch of scenes in which they speak English 😅

What would be the best way to format?

What would be the best way to format?

I'm trying to think of a script so you have an example, but I can't come up with one.

You could make a {NOTE: all italicized dialogue will be spoken in Spanish} and then just write it in English but italicized? So, the reader will know what's going on? Could that work?

That's what I've done in the past. Like the following:

INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT

Jane and John stand in the busy space, surrounded by sous chefs and prep cooks.

Note: Dialogue in italics will be spoken in French, to be subtitled in English.

JOHN
(in French, to prep cook)
My wife is hungry, can she have some bread?
(to Jane)
We have the best baker in Los Angeles. From Paris.

SOUS CHEF
(to prep cook)
Get the owner's wife a baguette -- now!

JANE
Don't they speak English?

JOHN
No, not in the kitchen. It'd break the mood...

Stupid example, but you get the idea. You only have to put it in the first scene, then stay consistent.
