  • How do I write this type of SCENE?

i have a scene where a killer/mystery person is following who he thinks is the female protag of the story but it is really another female. what should i write for this person as a name if i dont want the reader to know its not the female protag???

The killer watches what looks to be JANET get inside her car.

see, if i write it like that the reader already gets a sense that it may or may not be Janet.

please advise? or am i not explaining this clear?

Write it the way you envision it playing on the screen. If we are being deceived into thinking a woman is someone else then write it so we are deceived.

The killer follows Janet into the alley.

He grabs her arm and spins her around.

Holy Sh!t, it's not Janet! The killer is thunderstruck.

Before he can think, her knee is in his groin.

I would write it as though it were Janet all the time and then surprise the reader with the fact it isn't Janet. Write it from the POV of the follower or the killer or whomever it is that thinks it is Janet.
