      You know, when your friend's wife kicks him out and he ends up on your sofa, and he just won't leave?

      Actually, it's when a title (or some other optical element) is placed over a shot, so that you can see the shot and the title. Like vig's example.

      You can also superimpose one image over another - a double exposure kind of thing - which might come in handy in a scene where vig is making out like crazy with Jessica Alba, but we see that it's really just Alba's face superimposed over his pillow.

      But, mostly, it's gonna be titles that are "SUPERED:" or "SUPERIMPOSED" or just "SUPER:".
