I have scripts dating back ten years on my pile.

Also, keep in mind how many of the 250 produced films are from original material versus previously existing material.

How many specs sell a year?

How many are from NEW writers?

And how many are "clean sales" without any sort of attachments whatsoever?

And of those, how many sold without an agent?
    Good questions.
Would you like to share your point?
Should new writers give up based on the odds?

I thought your thesis was that one sale or assingment did not qualify as "breaking in".

Whether or not someone is a member of the wga is, in and of itself, entirely irrelevant.

        Re: Script Price...Minimum...Maximum.

A new writer should be an optimistic perseverant hard worker willing to accept refusals and criticisms. That or being a dead beat.

Lottery? Fvck lottery. This would imply I put all my efforts on luck. I think most of us here work hard to be where they are/want to be.

Anyhow, I've told myself a couple years back I would meet Nat through that channel. Sure, I could go the fanboy and/or stalk her but what would be the purpose? I rather she acknowledges me for what I positively accomplish rather than with a sign or handcuffs.

So yeah, I'm being optimistic and a lot of times, it comes down to your willingness to go through everything to reach your goal.

Oh, no - CE is going morbid on us? Sigh.

According to IMDB (as of a few days ago):
              1823 in development
              741 in pre-production
              643 filming
              1335 in post production
              334 completed
              4876 current projects

I think many new writers would be happy to be counted among this number.

Like CE said, "A career in Hollywood (whether it be as a writer or an executive) is neither a sprint nor a marathon, it's a death march. Only a few surivive and thrive."

.... leaving room for those aspiring.

Why not? That would put her at about 5 or 10 pounds over a healthy weight, right? Nothing wrong there.

If screenwriting is like a Powerball lottery, let's say...

Being well-educated and honing the craft would be like knowing one of the numbers before hand.

Networking and moving to the place where biz happens would be knowing another number.

So we have 2 out of 6 numbers so far. That lowers the odds to... 100,000 to 1?

And if you happen to have compelling stories to tell and are actually talented, that's like having two more numbers beforehand.

There you go. Keep doing whatever you have to do to ensure that you have as many numbers before the results are announced...

That's true. I had the good fortune to run into her when she was at Harvard. Acting aside, she does have a way of filling a room.
