Make up your own gesture. Nobody can prove that it wasn't a pop-culture gesture of the period. Use it twice. The first time, the opponent reaction makes it obvious that it's an obscene gesture. The second time a little more subtle. When you get a cult following, people will start using it in real life. (The director or some rewriter will probably change the actual gesture, but nobody needs to know that.)
If "the bird" is really from the 14th century, I would say it's definitely time for something new.
