  • question about montages

In my script some people get killed and I want to do a montage shown on television about how different people and the media are reacting. Can anyone tell me how I format this. Would it go something like this.

    MONTAGE- SHOWN ON TELEVISION

Mother(45) of the victim stands in front of her trailir in her pajama's.
    MOTHER
I can't believe this has happened,
    my baby didn't deserve this.

A young GIRL(16) stands outside her school.

    GIRL
When the gun went off I was in the cafeteria. I screamed and spilt my mac and cheese all over my new sweater.

GUY(17) leans against his car in the parking lot.

    GUY
    It's really sad.

HOSTESS(45) sits on the couch of her talk show set.

    HOSTESS
This crime is unthinkable blah blah blah.

    Re: question about montages

montage's are generally without dialogue- so I'd remove the parts where they talk.

If you want the dialogue, then it's a series of shots, and that's set up differently.

I recomend reading about 100 scripts. After that you'll have few if any format questions.

I'm sure this has been done in other movies. Isn't there a scene like this in Ghostbusters? Anyway, find screenplays with similar scenes as Whistlelock suggests. There's not a right way to do it, just the way you think best conveys the info.

        Re: question about montages

I found the following at http://www.films.com.br/direct.htm
Montages and Series Of Shots are sometimes confused.

        MONTAGE and SERIES OF SHOTS
These are also often thought to be the same thing, which is not the case. The difference being that MONTAGE incorporates much more on the screen. It is used to show a series of events, such as:
        MONTAGE
        A) Hitler enthusiastically making a speech at a rally
        B) Chamberlain arriving from Berlin - "Peace for our time"
        C) German troops invading Poland
        (...)
SERIES OF SHOTS are mini-scenes making up a sequence:
        SERIES OF SHOTS
        A) William jumps out of the car.
        B) He tumbles down an embankment.
        C) The car goes out of control, hits a tree and EXPLODES.
        D) William leans on a rock as he slowly gets up, watching the smoke rising from the burning car.
        (...)
        C
