  • Can you have a specific movie scene playing on TV?

In the new script I'm working on, I want to show that one of my characters thinks he's a military bad a&* when he's really not. Every morning he wakes up, puts on "Die Hard 2" and mimes the scene where Colonel Stuart does karate in front of the mirror. Only he's fat and uncoordinated (imagine Jack Black doing the scene instead of a buffed William Sadler). He ends up tearing a hole in his underwear, kicking over a lamp and falling flat on his face.

My question is can I specifically mention the scene from "Die Hard 2" in the script or should I just mention a generic martial arts scene? I'd really like to parody the karate scene, but I'm afraid it would cost a lot of money to buy the rights to it.

    Thanks.

Put it in. If and when you sell the script it will be the studios problem. They have people whose job is to do this. If they don't want to pay or can't clear it they'll ask for it to be changed.
