why does "your friend" have a problem with rewrites?
I would assume that if he wrote the source material... be easy.
I have no idea. He was looking for someone to do rewrites for him. I thought it was just laziness, but the guy sounded like he did more than a couple first drafts and maybe even tried a couple second ones.

i'm always amazed when writers say we can't do this, or can't do that. the nature of the game is that you can, you do and you must.
That's what I'm saying. But this guy really thought he was a good writer despite not "being able" to rewrite. Isn't that basically saying you can't write anything presentable?

Re: Strangest things you've ever heard writers say
Writing and rewriting are different skills. Give the guy a break. So he hasn't found his sea legs with rewrites yet. Kindly pointing out to him that it's a skill he needs to master would probably be more helpful than posting about him on DD. Just sayin'.

I didn't mean to make this thread about him.

Re: Strangest things you've ever heard writers say
I once sat biting my tongue as a writer's group member coolly explained that he was not going to try to use a family connection to contact a former FRIENDS producer. Because, quote, "I'm just not interested in writing TV."
I'm like, yo, if you're not using that lead can I have it???
Re: Strangest things you've ever heard writers say
Getting back on track...Even though he's not a screenwriter, I once heard Keith Richards say " I don't create. I leave creating to God. I just try to capture what's already there." Sounded kinda odd coming from Ol' Keith...He then went on to say "Mugglumphrieclassidoziemissmefripsiezzzzzzzzzzzzz z."

I'm not interested in marrying Erica Durance, I'm going to hold out for Kate Beckinsale.
Seriously, where has this guy been for the last few years. TV is where some of the best writing is happening, and the writers are treated better!
(Okay, so Kate is already married. A mere technicality....)
