  • The Best Place To Eavesdrop For Dialogue

Well actually it's my new best place -- THE VIDEO STORE. I ain't talking about the chains necessarily as much as the local habitat. And the stuff doesn't come from the customers but more frequently from the super jaded Gen X employees. They're the tatooed up, coffee/pot/Red Bull receptacles that spit out the most random sh1t. Almost none of it has to do with cinema.

    Well recommended.

A bar. Folks are gettin' their load on and they're not paying any attention to what's coming out of their mouth.

Ditto on the bar. Definitely. I have several gems saved up that's I've heard at bars.

I heard an absolute gem at the bar last night...

One guy heading into the restroom, another guy behind him:

        "It's a two-seater. Come on in."

Talkback radio. You want to get right out of your own headspace try listening to talkback.

And if you want to be afraid, be very afraid: listen at 2AM

The best thing of all you can tape it for later use without fear of retribution.

I used to listen to Sightings with Jeff Rense religiously back when I worked that shift.

Never laughed so hard in my life.

I just listened to talk radio for about ten minutes. Wanted to punch the guy who was talking in the face.

The overnight with Art Bell used to be brilliant. Usually UFOs, chupacabras, Bigfoot and other stuff. Had a vibe that it was partly scripted, but it was still great to fall asleep to. If you could...

But it was a goldmine of ideas. I'm sure more than a few D2DVDs got their start from an Art Bell night.

I was in the model railroad store buying stuff for my kid just yesterday and I heard one of the most fascinating monologues I've ever eavesdropped on. Among other things, it involved being a bag man for the Mob, the federal pen, Robert Oppenheimer and free energy, and it even gave me bits for the thing I'm working on now.

For a weird change of pace, take five people you see at least twice a week; then, note them individually, but target what everyone else says or says about the person when they are both: present and not present.

Quite a interesting observation about people right there; especially, friends.
