  • Inspiration

While rearranging my desk and writing place, I got to thinking about the things that inspire me, and how I incorporate those things into my writing space. So, just because it could be fun to read and post, what is it that inspires you, and drives your imagination, and how is that incorporated into your writing space?

Ah Marilyn Monroe! My office is adorned with two images of her, both custom framed. Both black and white and enlarged photos.

One is a candid shot of her lying among white sheets that partially conceal her nudity.

Beside her on the bed sits a breakfast tray containing a bottle of milk and a half full glass. She is breaking an egg on the lip of the glass.

She appears to have just woken up. The photo was said to have been taken by Joe DiMaggio on their honeymoon!:smokin

                To answer my own question....

I write in my bedroom (yeah, yeah, big mistake) and on my walls are movie posters of "In Good Company," "Girl With a Pearl Earring," "Lost in Translation" (a cookie for whoever can guess who my muse is... ), and "Garden State." Then I have a bulletin board with random stuff: interesting words I come across, favorite movie quotes, pictures of Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Jennifer Garner, and pictures of the things I want most: my Mercedes, the house I grew up in, and a picture of the Eiffel Tower to remind myself of the college tuition for my French school that will soon be looming over my head. My desk has a whole bunch of reference books on the craft, and pictures of my horse .

I also write in my bed room, well, dorm room. Posters include Bubba Ho-Tep, 28 Days Later, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Adapation., and Dr. Strangelove. Stills from a short film I did and some film festival VIP passes. Also numerous NBC doo-das from my time working for Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Re: To answer my own question....

I just skim through scriptpages. Those ideas are already thought up and just sitting there. That's like free donuts. Honestly.

Re: To answer my own question....

As silly as it sounds when I was around page 60 of my family comedy I needed some inspiration so I drew my own movie poster. I can't draw worth crap, but to see a couple elements from my story with a title in an unknown font across the top gave me the motivation to finish the script.

Often I find inspiration in the mailbox.

i really don't find inspiration anywhere out in the real world. i'm either excited about what i'm working on or i'm not.
