  • What awakens your muse? (part 2)

No, I don't need viagra. :lol

One that will stir my creative voice is a good book on action verb. Yeah, some kind of thesaurus on physical, demonstrative action verbs. That will help me with my second s/p. :rollin

And a good cup of coffee, of course.

A different colored pen works wonders if you're a handwriter.

A game of pool, a game ok poker, a NERF gun, a NERF basketball hoop (interchangeable with a laundry basket bball hoop), and, I confess, a quiet thirst for that stimulating drip of bourbon now and again.

I read a bunch of newspapers each day. Something that Congress may be debating over can trigger off something in my brain. An issue being debated right now has triggered the outline for my next script.

You too, Rina? I can only read once a week though. I find that a large part of the articles recycle news on a daily basis, but if you read once a week you can figure out the rest of the week. Issues, different places, things I didn't know, those excite me.

Yes, a lot of the articles are repeats. I tend to search out the local papers on the internet and read the local stories by the reporters there. The national stuff you can get off the general AP and Reuters newswires. I read by hand my local paper, the USA Today, and skim The New York Times. Then when I get home at night I scroll the net just reading stuff.

                No, MuckyDuck...

She removes less clothes than any Gilmore Girl. Whole film. All sensuality is implied. That film did with sexual-tension what Psycho did with obvious murder.

my muse seems to respond best to...

...random tidbits in articles or interviews. An offhand remark in a book I was reading led to the idea for my first novel. A minor comment in an interview I read led to the script I'm rewriting right now. And one teeny tiny minor bit of nothing in another interview that I read solved all the problems I was having in the outline of my next script. Who knows, I might get my next script idea from this board... scary thought

Re: my muse seems to respond best to...

music of the 40's and 60's, old movies. I had fun watching "Marriage On The Rocks" (Sinatra, Dean Martin) yesterday, especially that part where Trini Lopez sang.

movie moments, too, inspire me. for ex., the "drive sequence" in "Sleepless" where Meg Ryan hears the momless boy calling the radio show and that scene in the "Parent Trap" (old and new) where one of the twins is discovered posing as the other. :rollin

I'm usually reading when something strikes me. And espresso always helps. :rollin

Listening to music on a car or a train ride do wonders for me.

Reading comics (WOLVERINE!!!) always gets me going and I find watching previews for movies gets me in the writing mode.

Long car rides where I'm not the driver - this is my biggest one
Taking a mile or two walk along a nearby trail
Sitting in a crowded room, closing my eyes and listening
Looking through old high school yearbooks (not necessarily my own)
