I'm working on a psychic thriller story. Could everyone tell me their favorite movie in this genre. I'm trying to read and rent as many as possible to get a good idea of the pacing.

    Thanks all!

    Colleen,

Aren't you the writer of the
    art school piece? Did you
finish that? I thought it was
    pretty good.

I liked THE GIFT but the
    dock scene was kinda
    old-fashioned...

SO glad you asked, as you've been extremely helpful to myself, and my Gaelic section of blood demands that I attempt to return the favour...

Okay. From my POV on the phrase "psychic-thriller", it means/includes any flick in which psychic phenomena is part of the story/drives the story forward, so...

      ANGEL HEART

THE SHINING (psychic abilities allow that story to unfold)

THE HAUNTING (original B/W version; avoid the 90's version at all costs)

THE KINGDOM (aka "Geister" ): Foreign TV MOW series; may be hard to find, but worth it if you do. Puts ANGEL HEART to shame. Here are the imdb links:

      us.imdb.com/Title?0108906

      us.imdb.com/Title?0127392

THE FURY (tacky by today's standards, but made a strong mark in it's initial theatrical release)

        Heather Graham = hottie

There aren't too many that pop in my head in this genre, except The Gift, of course.

I withstand from naming my favorite, however, out of immense hope that From Hell will win my nomination, come three weeks.

I'll add The Sixth Sense to the list.

Naudikom, have you read the graphic novel that "From Hell" is based on? I read it last year, and I don't have much hope for the movie. Doesn't look like it's going to be faithful to the original work, and in fact there's no way a two-hour movie could scratch the surface of this phone-book-sized comic book.

(I'll probably go see it anyway, since I like Johnny Depp, and I will someday marry Heather Graham.... )

            Thanks guys!
Kimbro- Yes, Artgirl was my story. Needs a bit more polishing. Then it's going to be sent out into the world! Hope my baby doesn't dissappoint me.
Fluff- I don't believe in keeping things to myself. If I have any info that can help out another all they have to do is ask me. Good for the karma. I don't keep tabs on reciprication. Thanks though!

I just want to stress how UBER-GOOD the Kingdom os, and add a few more to the list...

                THE EYES OF LAURA MARS

                (and more recently)

IN DREAMS, with Annette Bening (ignore the ending; the rest of the movie is useful...)

                  Colleen,

                  I'd be happy to do
                  a script swap with you.
                  I'm finishing mine
                  about the bookish
                  urbanite who
                  inherits a small-town
                  cleaning service.

Crap, I got to this thread too late. All of my picks were taken. (you may wanna check out HEARTS IN ATLANTIS, but it's not reeeeeeaaaallly a thriller)

And I agree about IN DREAMS. Fantastic build-up to...

                            Nada.

This is a sadly neglected and ignored genre, in my opinion, as I find it to be ripe with possibilities (as you know, my current script is a psychic thriller, so I'm just a bit biased :lol ).

                            Cheers,

                            Tony

Nah, it was a picture of Graham in those yellow heart-glasses from Boogie Nights.

We must all pay homage to the great Rollergirl.
