    Re: Writing with music distracting?

I like to fool myself into thinking I can write with music, but I can't. Good to get in the mood, then I have to turn it off.

But I live in an urban setting so there's never any true silence. In fact, the building next door is being demolished as I write this--has been for weeks--and I've been in one of my best writing grooves ever lately. Coincidence?

But I'm moving out of the downtown area soon and will have a real backyard. I'm going to get my first laptop and try writing outside with the birds chirping. I think what I need is some random fill noise in the background.

I generally find music distracting, but one of my scripts was set in Mexico and I listened to a lot of latin guitar while writing and editing. That really put me in the right mood at the time.

maybe this belongs in a Tweet, but the thread's here...

I'm "stupid hooked" on writing with/to Muse's Knights of Cydonia.
