  • Edge of Tomato writing contest

So I came up with a title for an idea for a script. 'Edge of Tomato' on the May loglines thread. It was at first just a play on the film title "Edge of Tomorrow". It was to be a story about some bugs looking for their buddy who disappeared. Finalact4 suggested that the story actually follow the story of "Edge of Tomorrow" which made for a better story. "Edge of Tomorrow" meets "A Bugs Life" so... How about an 8-page max script writing contest using the idea of bugs searching for their buddy who went missing in a garden. If you have no idea or never watched "Edge of Tomorrow" no problem it's kinda like the movie "Groundhog Day".

So the deadline will be in one month the 11th of June at midnight at which time the entries will be posted.

The deadline for voting will be the 30th of June at midnight.

The prize will be one year of DDP script sales database.

E-mail your entry to me [email protected]

    Good luck.

I was excited to write about tomatoes, but this is your contest, so I respect it.

Spoilers, Tom Cruise dies, and dies, and dies, in many hilarious ways, I was surprised he went along with this, it made me think he really has a good sense of humor and can laugh at himself.

Weirdly, I am no stranger to writing talking insect characters, I'll see if I can come up with something for this.

That movie has aged really well and is a fun rewatch every time it’s in (it’s on a lot).

Im not real into the talking bug genre but then thought about going straight horror with fungus zombie ant heads exploding, insecticide fogs, praying mantis eating the heads off their mates and bedbug intrusive insemination scenes. Who’s not paying to see jerry Seinfeld play a bedbug….

              He was a terrible bee.

or perhaps it’s about a centipede that cuts up other centipedes and forces the parts to form a family with lots of domestic strife and they get jobs and end up in senior care facilities. And it’s German. The Centipede Human.

Maybe I should stay out of this one.

You know, I'm taking a vaca for the first time in three years and just writing week after next. I might be up for it. Challenging because it takes a few pages to set up the concept.

I love the title. I have ideas brewing...

50 First Dates is another reference.

Anyone who can write dialogue for robots and space aliens can write anything for anything.

I would have to argue that "Tropic Thunder" is Cruise at his funniest.

Quite the contrary, this is right up your alley.

Easy. It's 8-pages max so you could knock it out of the park in a lot less.
