I enjoyed all the entries. I'm sorry mine was so confusing but no, Sticky goo, I'm not going to rewrite it!! I'm here to free associate and have fun.
Now..Sarajb's short was amazing and like drinking a fizzy champagne while on the back of a speeding motorcycle.
Vandall's was amazing as well. Wow, that guy knows how to put together some stunning descriptions.
But my vote goes to one of the shorter ones which actually put me in a place and made my mind become a camera. Tomatobob, I actually leaned over closer to the computer screen to get a look at that ant. SO....my vote goes to
JOHN DOE
Happy belated Halloween all.
I am not voting. I have not read but one entry so far, and will not vote this late. But I want to say that Fortean did an excellent job with "Mostly Harmless."
Now I will read "The Fire."
Edited to add: Okay, I just read "The Fire." Very creepy, entertaining, well-written. I keep wondering, though ... Is there political allegory here? The demon in the stove ... A symbol of greed, a demand for more and more? And the wood ... Didn't George Bush say, "Need any wood?" Is this a Republican symbol for wealth? And the American history book that represents the heritage of the nation ... sacrificed to the fire of greed.
Or maybe it was all Freudian, with the female teacher (sexually frustrated, no doubt, like all schoolmarms of that era) sending the boys out to "get wood" and bring it back to her to feed to the "demon" (repressed sexual appetite) in the "stove" (symbol of vagina/uterus). And, in the end, sexuality destroys everything.
There could be a lot here, Wenonah, that you never thought about.
:rollin
I hope you realize I am just kidding. Very good short script.
