  • Writing for reality TV

I have been reading these forums for a while and it seems most post for TV shows/reality shows were from around 2003-2007 when reality TV wasn't really at its peak. I would assume the theory is still the same but I couldn't get a clear answer to this question.

Reality TV doesn't really have a script per say. So I'm assuming the best thing would be a treatment to get my idea out. I have been seeing the word "Query" a lot on here for people with no establishment in this business. So I'm thinking should I write a query letter and then send my treatment if asked or should I just write a treatment and try to see if I can get some activity with that with some production companies? I have the treatment about half done but the "Query" word has me wondering if I should have done that first??

    thanks

ok for newbies like me that might come across this,

If your writing for reality TV you want to go with a treatment. A Query is really used for screen plays.
