    Ok guys,

I listened to all your advice but, I want this deal done before the holiday. If my attorney doesn't get it done at the latest, tomorrow, I have an agent waiting in the wings. But hell, I don't want to have to pay them both! That would necessitate my turning over everything he's done thus far (the scope of which I have no idea) to her.

Is there a respectful way to ask him to $hit or get off the pot? Or at least ask him if he'd rather I turn this over to someone else?

With the post-holiday dumping I'm getting from m day job, and trying to keep up with this, my nerves are ragged and I'm afraid I'll say something I'll regret.

    Am I being unreasonable?

    Thanks, everyone.

Forgive me, I don't recall if it's a script or pitch or what stage you're at in the deal, so I'm not sure what "done" would be - agreeing to numbers, or a contract done and signed? If it's the former, yes, you can push for that stage to wrap - it's just phone calls. If it's a contract - those can take forever (draft after draft, nitpicking), and every other client that lawyer has is scrambling to wrap things up before the new year. December is a busy time for lawyers and agents. Even in slow times of year, plenty of deals see no contract to sign for months. Not sure who else is involved in your project, but often one's deal being signed depends on someone else's closing first. Never hurts to call and make your feelings known, though.

You say you have an agent waiting in the wings to do the deal if the lawyer won't, but you don't want to pay them both. I'm confused by that. Did the deal predate the agent?

Yes, PC, the deal did predate the agent. I have producer, director, casting agent, etc. I was presented with my option/purchase agreement the day before Thanksgiving. I went over everything with my attorney, the revisions I want, etc. and he STILL hasn't finished putting this thing together, which, as I understand it, is pretty fundamental stuff. But what do I know?

He told me he was going to send last night for my review and nothing. Every day this drags on just ratchets up the tension. For me, anyway.

        Deals take a long time.

There are random delays. As a baby writer, you're usually near the bottom of the pile, in terms of importance.

At this point, you would probably have to pay your lawyer anyway.

Just be patient. I know it's hard. Months and months for paperwork to get done is common.

This is just me, but if it were me and there was an agent in the wings, I'd bring him/her on board. Wouldn't begrudge the %age for another pair of experienced eyes on the project.

I'm seriously considering this, so thank you. You're right: It's worth the cut to make sure this isn't totally effed up.

It really is going to be alright. Just take a deep breath. And I hope everything turns out exactly the way you want it to.... Or close. You got this.
