Just finished reading this excellent book and would happily recommend it as a worthwhile read.

Besides being famous for his directorial skills, Kurosawa was also a prolific screenwriter and was of the opinion that to be successful at the former, one must be competent at the latter. He didn't like being rewritten either, which, in his book, he states happened once (covering the scope of his work up until the 1950s).
Anyway, a goodly read for those with an interest in his early life / work.
