  • I knid of chuckled the other day.

Was in Chapter's the other day, big box type book stores here in Canada and saw a book "How To Enter Screenplay Contests and Win."

Now I ain't making this up, but there were 197 pages of contests, all North American based, and I chuckled!

    Sheesh, Raymond

Actually, there aren't 197 pages of contests. In that book there are about 40 contests. Which is about 80 pages in my edition. Then there are 117 pages of chapters on various subjects, some of those chapters being interviews with people who have won some of the contests in the book ... and gone on to successful careers as produced Hollywood writers.

Actually, Ray, that's extremely unlikely. And even if there were two completely different books named "How To Enter Screenplay Contests and Win," what are they odds they'd both have the exact same number of pages?

If you plan on entering a lot of contests, it's VERY useful. It has a list of forty contests, their addresses, their fees, the time of the year they're open, the format the screenplays need to be in (universally standard format, I think), the web-site addresses of the contests, quotes from various screenwriting gurus about writing, interviews with people like Max Adams, who broke into the business via screenwriting competitions, and ... oh, that's about it. But what do you want for thirteen bucks?

I found about eight competitions that I thought were worth it for me, out of the forty. Plus, a new edition was just released this month or last (I think), so it's been recently updated.

Sure. I think it's worth it. Especially if you plan on entering more than the big-3.

Just checked Amazon. New edition. An additional hundred pages. Could be just a different layout ... hope for additional info.

Just what are the big three? Austin, Nicholl, and -- what? Chesterfield? Disney?

I would say Nicholl, Chesterfield and Disney, but I guess Austin would qualify too, so there would be a big 4.
