  • Re: What are you reading, right now...

Reading a collection of witty, satirical, and self-deprecating stories and tales from screenwriter Ernest Lehman -- "Screening Sickness".

His imaginary phone conversation with Pauline Kael in response to her question "Why is it that you people in Hollywood don't make better pictures?" is classic.

The Red Right Hand by Joel Townsley Rogers.

And I just got done re-reading the first three Hap and Leonard novels.

Loved The Red Right Hand, but had only heard about it because it was referenced in a Charlie Kaufman script.

Rereading the first Shardlake novels by CJ Sansom so I can get to the latest, which I haven't.

Other recent reads have been 'The Pyrates' by George MacDonald Fraser and part of 'Cultural Amnesia' by Clive James (not a book to be read all at once).

The Full Burn, by Kevin Conley. A book about stuntmen and I've only read the first two chapters and have to tell you: YOU MUST READ THIS! Great stuff.

Let's bring this thread back. There were some cool reading suggestions. So I'm reading:

                              book: "Galveston" by Nic Pizzolatto
script: "True Detective - Pilot" by Nic Pizzolatto

I've barely started with the book, but the prose is pretty good. There's a literary quality to it that's usually missing in popular genre stories.

Come on, guys. Let's keep this thread alive.

A bit like Bukowski but without the profanity and, I think, more honest psychologically.
can't believe i've never heard about this book. i love bukowski and stories like this. going to order it asap.

i usually read in several books at once, taking my time to finish. currently i'm reading "the temple of the golden pavilion" by mishima, and i've just started on "music for chameleons" by truman capote. i've also peeked into the short stories of hemingway lately.
