Because I'm not what they're looking for.
Oooo! White male grievance tears! So nourishing.

    • Imagine thinking trying to game Nicholl is easier than writing a great script and querying with it?

Writing AT ALL. No proof some of our posters ever stop talking about other writer's creative work and actually write their own films.

        • This whole thread boils down to how do I become an alchemist vs a successful writer.

That's not what I was referring to about all the copying & pasting. It is important I think to be respectful, give attribution and try to provide a link to any and all, of course. But that wasn't my specific concern.

Of course not. Never even remotely thought it was. I could have argued it with her, but I just left.

Being on the internet, we have this incredible opportunity with hyperlinks. Speaking as someone who refused to spend the necessary hours in the library before there was an internet, the new way is almost too easy.

I think I'm being too subtle. I (still) have concerns, it's just not nor was it ever about your linking or copyright issues in terms of all the cutting & pasting you do. We'll get to that soon, though.

Have you ever seen the movie "The Paper Chase"?
                  • Charles W. Kingsfield Jr. : Mr. Hart, here is a dime. Take it, call your mother, and tell her there is serious doubt about you ever becoming a lawyer.
James T. Hart : [pause, as he is leaving the room] You... are a son of a bitch, Kingsfield!
Charles W. Kingsfield Jr. : Mr. Hart! That is the most intelligent thing you've said today. You may take your seat.
Do you know what three years of this does to the human brain? I do.

I didn't go to Harvard Law School, like former President Obama. But I did go to the University of Michigan Law School. At the time, Yale was #1, Harvard was #2, and U of M was #5.

Do you know HOW I got into the fifth best law school in the country?

I took an all-day test and scored in the 99.6th percentile of everyone who took it.

When the Nicholl sells "reader notes," the notes are thick with phrases like "voice" and "craft" "Dimension" and "tension." You can't understand what the notes mean unless you know how the Academy uses those words. Same with "due process of law" "Statute of limitations" "Intellectual Property." "Burden of Proof." "Free Speech." You go to an entertainment lawyer because they know what all the words mean. "Free Speech" has nothing to do with how much it costs, and "Voice" rarely involves talking out loud. But it could, I suppose.

Here's an interesting story from a criminal defense attorney:

(This isn't me.) " Often lawyers will put tremendous amounts of time and effort into cases where they know that a “not guilty” verdict is not going to happen. But they act to protect the rights of their clients and to hold the prosecution to their burden of proof. I was a criminal defense attorney for many years. Some of my greatest “victories” were things like having a client who was facing a life sentence resolve his case for a two-year sentence by establishing weaknesses in the prosecution’s case. Or having a murder charge reduced to a manslaughter charge. Or successfully attacking the alleged prior convictions in a “three-strikes” case. Or having a capital case result in a life sentence instead of death..." (end)

I was nervous the first time I was responsible for a client NOT being given a death sentence. Now, I'm the guy you want representing you.

I'm going to take a few days to enjoy the Super Bowl.

Really? I thought you got your undergraduate degree in Construction Management from Arizona State. The only graduate degree you have is an MBA from Cal State Fullerton.

To get into U of M Law, you would need to be a much better writer than you seem to be.

"The beauty of doing nothing is that you can do it perfectly. Only when you do something is it almost impossible to do it without mistakes. Therefore people who are contributing nothing to society, except their constant criticisms, can feel both intellectually and morally superior." -- Thomas Sowell

Write a screenplay, already. It'll suck, but at least you'll have some clue about what everyone else here is discussing.
