It just means I'm one of the five finalists. The winner will be picked by the guest judge and that person will receive free admission to the contest.

According to the email I got, they don't expect the guest judge to have a decision before the contest deadline, so I was encouraged to enter and if my pitch is picked, they will refund my money. So, no telling when the announcement will be made on the site.

My understanding of how it works is that the 5 finalist will have their Log Lines and pitch posted on the Find The Funny web site with the guest judges comments.

      So best of luck Kim.

        Thanks.

And according to the website, they're still going to hold monthly pitchslams. Not sure what the prize will be since the contest deadline will be over. But keep pitching everyone!!

              Kim,

I have just read all the pitches and your`s should win I`d think. The only one that has a chance of beating you out might be "SCRATCH" mainly because it centers around something we all dream about,(the lottery) but it`s a long shot (the guy has a better chance of winning the lottery) but at least he got in, do I sound bitter yet?

I knew my pitch had no chance the second I hit the send button (which I stated in an earlier post) but to have them pick 7 pitches, some of which are just plain lame, and not get in? You know I`m going to be drinking early and often today.

              Go Kim!!!!!!

                  Kim,

The strongest thing I drink Is Mt. Dew so I`m safe as long as I don`t leave the house later on.

I saw that if YOUR pitch wins over all you`ll have your pitch posted on INKTIP.com free for 6 months, did you read anything about that or is the Mt.Dew already clouding my brain?

I think all the finalists get the free posting on inktip but it didn't mention anything about it in the email.

Enjoy your Mt. Dew but don't let all the caffeine get to your head.

I just saw that they picked the winner for the pitch slam contest and I have to admit, I never saw that one coming.

                        Me neither. That's not a pitch/logline, that's a mini-synopsis.

                        :rolleyes

What I didn't like was that every other comment was "well, if well executed this could be great, if not it would suck" ~ couldn't you say that about almost ANY pitch (especially a group of finalists) I think the judge should concentrate on the pitch and let the writers worry about its execution. They shouldn't be judged on their potential for being badly written.

Kim, I still think yours is the best.

They tend to say that more when the pitch is not really high-concept,
but the movie could work if it were written funny.

If the pitch itself makes you laugh out loud because it's unique and pleasing and funny, and you can immediately see the conflict that would make the movie HAVE to be funny, they don't say "it would depend on the execution."

I can't say what I'm about to say without it sounding like out-of-control ego or sour grapes, but I entered their pitch contest a couple of times with pitches that always generate a lot of script requests in the industry, and they picked pitches that were nowhere near as good.

I have particular expertise in this area that has been validated a lot. I can tell what's a good comedy pitch and what's not, whether I wrote it or someone else did. And it's clear to me they don't know how to judge very well, which is why I decided not to enter their contests anymore.

I read all the pitches and it seems to me they chose the
one with the most familiar gimmick - - someone dresses up as someone else to reach a goal (Some Like It Hot, Tootsie
                              Mrs. Doubtfire, etc.)

Which leads me to believe they're looking for something 'safe' from us newbies.
