Has anyone else seen/recieved this email yet?

Subject: An invitation for our Top 1000 Screenplay Contestants
    Date: May 20, 2004 3:28 PM
In keeping with Project Greenlight's Mission to create opportunities for talented,
new screenwriters, all of our Top 1000 Contestants are invited to advance to the
Final Round of the San Diego Film Festival Screenwriting Contest.

MENTION PROJECT GREENLIGHT AND RECEIVE $5.00 OFF THE SUBMISSION FEE.
    DEADLINE IS 7/1.

Please visit the Festival Website for more information:

    www.sdff.org

PLEASE NOTE: Project Greenlight is no way affiliated with the San Diego Film Festival
in any way. All questions regarding rules, dates, prizing, etc. should be directed
to the film festival. We are extending this invitation as a courtesy to our Top
1000 Screenplays, at the request of the San Diego Film Festival.
Thoughts? Impressions? Do they really mean 'advance to the final round'? Seems a little cheesy......

Hmmm...I thought the Final round in a given contest was for the top .01% or so of entries. That would mean the San Diego contest must have well over 100,000 entries for the term "Finalist" to have much meaning. Besides which, it leads one to believe that where other entrants to the contest had to face the normal winnowing process to make the finals, about 1/3 of ALL the most recent PGL entries vault directly into Finalist territory without any review by the San Diego judges whatsoever.

But hey, if there's even a remote possibility I could meet Pauly Shore (see contest website) through this contest, I'm all over it!
