Prize money, feedback, studio first look?
You get a very nice plaque, a VIP pass to the event for you and a guest, a nice bag of assorted horror/sci-fi film goodies, a little bit of money and your script looked at by some major players, including Lionsgate (although it took 4 months to get feedback from them).
And the ability to begin your pitches with, "This script won the international horror & sci-fi film festival screenplay competition", which worked out well.

Re: Horror & Sci-Fi Film Fest
Winners have been announced. Congrats to all:
Accidentally Dead
Written by Tom Flynn
A horror comedy about a ghost who haunts a house in order to stay out of Hell. Trouble comes into play for the ghost when he falls for the new tenant of the house. He can either scare her away, stay out of Hell, and possibly be lonely for an eternity; or try to find a way to live happily ever after with the woman of his dreams. On the road to happiness, Jonas battles all-American families, a chauvinistic landlord, redneck date-rapists, giant eight-foot demons, an evil ex-girlfriend, bureaucratic angels, and a supreme ruler who appears in the form of James Earl Jones.
2nd Place
The Dead
Written by Steve Hayes
The intertwined story of different Zombie holocaust survivors struggling to find safety from the Living Dead. Can the last surviving strangers of humanity learn to come together to rebuild a dead world?
3rd Place
Sleep Tight
Written by Colin Costello
When a small Illinois town is terrorized by mutated bedbugs, it's a up to the new police chief, his teen stepson and girlfriend, and a mysterious entomologist to save them. What Jaws did for the ocean this will do for the bedroom. Sleep Tight. Don't Let Them Bite.
