  • Resubmitting the same script to the same contest. Good, or bad?

Am pondering re-entering one of my scripts from last year. A script that made finals. I keep getting reminders to enter. I WAS gonna enter a new script but unfortunatly wasn't able to finish on time.

Have you guys ever resubmitted the same script to a contest the followign year? Did you place higher? lower? Did it help? Hurt?

    Just curious...

Did anything happen with your script by placing in the finals. I've re-entered quarter and semi final scripts in the past. Unless you're talking about Nicholl, I'm not sure it's worth entering again if you already placed that high. Just my 2-cents.

nah. Nothing whatsoever happened with my script. No calls, no requests, nothing.

What contest was it? If you placed in the finals and didn't receive any read requests, it might be a good one for the rest of us to avoid.

I placed in the top 20 of the screenwriting expo contest and so far, absolutely nothing has came of it.

if you tweaked it up, polished it, did some wordsmithing then maybe you should re-enter. it's quite unlikely that the same people who read your script will read it again.

Thought they used the same judges

Don't know if they use the same judges each year, but since PAGE names 30 winners, I think they only push the winning scripts. I queried them about this last year and Jen said a few finalists and semi-finalists have gotten reps, etc., from the judging process, but because they have so many winners, she has to focus most of her efforts on promoting those scripts.

They seem very forthcoming, so you should ask whether they use the same judges. It'd be interesting to know.

From what I know they use new judges for preliminary rounds and the same older judges for the later rounds

I entered a script in Nichol but got rejected...then the next year I was a semifinalist with it. The difference is I cut 20 pages of crap so it was nice and lean, and fixed a few holes here and there. SO...if you have made serious changes submit again. If not...the results more than likely won't be different. They might, but it isn't a gamble I'd spend 40-50 bucks on.

Do it! I did this with the Disney TV Fellowship. First submission - nothing. Second submission - finalist. It was the exact same script. So, go for it. There's no downside, except the entry fee.
