Anyone receive their notes yet for the second round? They were due out in October sometime.

Re: Austin Second Round Notes
My notes were good. Brief, but very well communicated. My notes from Blue Cat were pretty amateurish by comparison."People spend so much time focusing on rescuing the princess, they forget how much fun it is to fight the dragon."

Re: Austin Second Round Notes
I got my notes as well. I think this was a nice touch. I wasn't expecting ScriptMechanic or Bart quality notes, but it was interesting to see what the judges were thinking. Hope they keep this up.
For those who don't know, the second round judges gave you a score based on a variety of things. In the end, your score is added up so you see where you fell (ie: 45/50). If anything, I'd like to know what the cutoff was for those who made it to the semi's.

Re: Austin Second Round Notes
Alex explained in the email that the score fluctuated by judge. They took the top fifteen percent. That way if you were scored by someone who, like me, never ever gives a one or a ten on those scales, you wouldn't be screwed.
But yeah, not that it means anything, but I was thinking that my score of 31/50 was 62 percent, a D- or an F!
Anyway, I thought my plot might have been a bit convoluted, but having two people say it was fine made me feel okay about it. And I have a fake protagonist that goes into the background in the second act, knew it was going to be a bit of a problem. Both people called me out on that. A comparison of my writing to Asimov was unexpected, but I'll take it.
But they were appreciated and interesting, even if terse. Glad they did it.

Re: Austin Second Round Notes
Yeah-- Alex sent us our first/second round notes.
He kicked it off with a large form email saying in essence "don't take some of the bad marks too seriously." We read the notes and-- wow!
I don't want to transcribe the whole thing, but here are the highlights:
FIRST ROUND
Originality: Great twists that come out of left field.
Structure: The rising action and consequences are all organic. Stakes are raised well.
Dialogue: Unique Voices. Witty and fresh dialog
SECOND ROUND (the one they score):
Originality: 10
Plot: 8
Structure: 9
Characters: 9
Dialogue: 8
We had the pleasure of meeting our second-round judge in the lobby of the Driskill. He was in a panel with me just before and tracked me down afterwards. I offered to buy him several thousand drinks, but he had somewhere to go. He did, at my insistence, autograph a print-out of his notes, though.
The script is "The Sensitivity Program" which was in the Sci-Fi category.
