Did anyone else submit scripts in time for the early deadline? We're supposed to receive 2 analyses per script by January 5th. I'm hoping they'll send some earlier than that. Has anyone received their analyses yet?
Thanks for the response, Nikeegoddess! Good to know they did provide the notes early like they were supposed to and that they let you resubmit. Now I really can't wait to get my feedback!
Yippee Skippee! I got my feedback. They really liked my script, giving it 50 out of 60 points! I guess it means it advances to the next part of the competiton. Not sure about my chances though. My script is a family Christmas film in the vein of Home Alone/The Santa Clause. Past Bluecat finalists all had indie dramas. Oy vey! Hope this is their year to break out of their box!
that's good - 50 outta 60 pts. but i would guess there could be 100 others with those scores or better. the winning script will score at least a 57 or 58. and maybe you should put in that little extra effort and use their notes to push the envelope. tweak it and resubmit. make good... great!

Our sixty or so finalists from our twelve-year history have represented all genres. There is a perception out there that we only like art house, Sundance-type movies.
Our 2009 Winner was a big budget period comedy set in the golden age of Hollywood and the 2010 Winner is an American Beauty tweener story. One of our past winners has Peter Bogdanovich attached to direct his neo-Hitchcock popcorn thriller. One winner is repped at UTA writing comedies, another finalist has a recent project with Dicaprio attached and he's at WME.......it goes on and on. We will have an alumni directory on our site shortly which will better show our track record in identifying writers with true professional talent.
It's a terrible shame people think we don't love all great scripts! Hell, I'm writing a comedy about christmas shopping myself! Haha.
Hi, Gordy! Say hi to your bro for all of us, because everyone of us has a script that has the perfect role for him!
wouldn't it be cool if some actors would have script contests as a way of finding a great part for them to play?
i mean... they don't all have brothers and sisters who will do this for them.
hey Gordy - you lurk here often? two posts since 2007!!!
anyhoo - i'll be seeing you in 10 days.
and coincidentally - there is a part for your bro in the script i sent you yesterday.

Thanks for the insight! It's good to know that the field is wide open and that I still have a chance to advance in the competition! If nothing else, the glowing feedback I received (the word brilliant was used - I kid you not!), has pumped up my ego more than I can say. I will definitely apply to Bluecat in the future!

That's good advice. One of my scores was a 57 and I'm still gonna tweak and resubmit.

Congrats on the great score! I hope you share your new score when you get it later. I'm curious to see if it improves. When you submit, it goes to brand new readers. Do they throw out your old scores if you resubmit or do they take the best out of the 4? I had an acquaintance in the industry read my script before I submitted and they hated it. The specific things that the person hated were the very same things the Bluecat reviewers loved which is why I am thrilled with my 50. It's just so subjective!
When you resubmit a new draft it's treated as a completely stand alone entry. They don't throw out your original draft, nor do they combine scores, or anything like that.
And whatever the cutoff will be for a script to advance, you only need to meet that cutoff with one set of scores. Not both. They don't take the average of the two or anything like that. So if one reader absolutely loves your script and the other reader absolutely hates it, you still advance.
And I'll definitely post my new scores when I get them. But I doubt they'll be better. That's not why I'm resubmitting. I just want my script to be as strong as possible.
Aw, man! Gary, you've got my brain churning! I've got some hard decisions to make. I actually never thought my big budget Christmas script had a chance of winning. I only entered Bluecat because I wanted the feedback on my script (you can't beat $60 for 2 script analyses!) Well I've gotten the feedback and they've given me some really good suggestions. Luckily it was mainly typos and other small changes - nothing major but they really do improve the script. So basically I've gotten what I came for. However....
Now Gordy makes me think a well written family film does have a shot of winning or at least placing in the competition. So now I must decide should I take my chances that my current entry is good enough to advance or should I make the minor changes and resubmit, paying ANOTHER $60 bucks. Oy vey! Times like these, I wish I had a crystal ball. Any psychics on Done Deal?
