  • Amazon Studios Virgin...

Okay, I've uploaded a script (George's Sister Maggie) at Amazon Studios after ignoring all the glowing reports you guys have been giving over the last year or so.

This better be good. LOL Just kidding...

    I hope it's a good ride.

Maybe you're listening to all the wrong people. The people I respect have given very good reports about AS.

This might sound strange but one of the reasons I don't want to enter Amazon Studios (even after they changed some of their draconian terms) is because getting optioned there for 18,000$ would make you ineligible for all? contests.

Including the Nicholl, Page Awards, etc.

        Good luck anyway Ken!

ETA: I'm not sure if I'm right, but it seems the Tracking B contest does accept submissions from screenwriters who've sold scripts? It was a post on DDP, so not official, and Tracking B doesn't seem to have a page about rules so in a way that backs it up.

Well, I don't expect to get anything optioned, but who knows. And I'm getting to the point where the contest thing has been mined. I say with what I'll probably get this year, and maybe next year, should be more than enough through contests done.

There isn't much difference between telling someone you quarterfinalled at Nicholl seven, or nine times. At some point, it doesn't mean anything unless you start getting something out of it.

a quarterfinalist in any contest is just a scream that your script still needs more work. isn't that obvious?

AS values concept over writing because they're looking to produce and will pay someone to rewrite and develop a script with a concept they like. you should check out the 14 scripts on their development slate and see if what you have to offer is a likely candidate.

You don't want to option a script for five figures to a company that is actively looking to produce features...so you can still enter contests? THAT'S your goal? To be a contest-eligible writer?

              Strange is putting it mildly.

Nicholl Finalist sounds much nicer in that sentence, instead of 'contest eligible writer.'

I guess, since Amazon is an unproven entity as of yet, I place a higher value on getting attention through competitions like Nicholl, Page, and Tracking B.

I want to have a career at this, and those contests seem to be one of the best ways to get my writing in front of legitimate managers and agents.

So in my mind I'm trying to think long term, and those competitions make more sense to me than Amazon. We'll see how delusional I am when the competition results come out.

                  To each his own.

Well, how about a finalist finish or two or three? I didn't mean to imply that quarterfinaling was my peak. Jeesh.

I will say this though, I have one script that quarterfinalled in Nicholl five times, and I'd stack that against anyone's accollades. And again, it's not as if that is the best that script has done.

My point is, there are times when you've done enough contest-wise to move on to bigger and better pastures.

I am entered in Austin, but don't plan on entering trackingb.
