I guess this thread referred to the Story Pros contest from earlier this year.

Is anyone in the current contest? I made it to the QF last week, and this week squeezed into the SF.

I'm glad someone reactivated this thread! Thought no one cared about the Fall edition of StoryPros I made it to the Semis, hoping to go all the way. Was no fun waiting until 11:00 p.m. EST last night for them to post the results

I've had good results with this contest, both "the Awards" and "the International" version.

The coverage is excellent, and since they usually boot my scripts up the line at least to Quarterfinalist (Semi-finalist in the current contest -- under my "real" name, which isn't M.O.S.), I know that they actually read our scripts -- with discernment!

The one time I got Second Place (Sci-Fi division), the prizes were quick to arrive. One of their tech people actually helped me through some translation issues between an audio course they gave me (from the always excellent John Truby) and my computer.

So it's a good little contest: one that is getting perhaps to where it isn't that little anymore, but isn't sacrificing any of the qualities that got it there. My thumb's up anyway.

I'm in as a semi-finalist. Maybe I'm missing something.....but I'm trying to get my head around how they can post QF's and the SF's within just a couple of weeks of each other. Finalists and winners are also announced fairly shortly. They can't possibly get all the scripts fresh reads for each round and tabulate results within a couple of weeks, can they? Anyone know anything about their reading and evaluating procedures? Seems their turnaround time is nearly impossible.

I don't know how the reading process is structured at StoryPros, but I do know that the number of scripts is winnowed down from several thousand initial entries to couple of hundred QuarterFinalists to just a hundred SemiFinalists. So that's a lot less to read, with each go-round.

Also, the first round readers probably make notes and/or give points for what they read, which allows the next round to arrive at a quicker result since they're not going in blind.

Probably some combination of the above explains the quickness of the process. I honestly don't think it's a "random dart" on the target -- which has been my impression of other contests.
