As much as I dislike doing pitches in person or on video, I think there is a growing trend to do video pitches (or on Zoom) because of Covid. I've noticed there are more pitch contests too that are incorporating videos. Thank god we can edit them!

Oh, also Impact has submission questions that allow you to pitch other projects you have or are developing. They said we can change our listed projects on ICN to feature other scripts if we want to, but they strongly suggested we post the one they responded too and leave it up for at least a month before replacing it with another project.
Thanks for the response. I guess the question I'm really getting at is: Impact allows you to pitch an idea, and then separately, submit a writing sample so they can assess your writing. They say that the sample can be the same as the pitch. Was your sample the same as your pitch, or was it a different idea? Hope that makes sense.

BTW, just looked at your pitch video, and it's awesome -- great production values (and makes me want to up my game for my next try)!

My sample was the script for STINKY FEET AND THE MENEHUNE (same as my video/project pitch) but I also pitched a couple of other completed scripts as part of my response to questions. Eg., they ask what are you most proud of and I told them about a TV pilot I wrote (TRIGGERS) based on my experiences as a recovering alcoholic going through rehab, then keeping sober. I also pitched another animation/hybrid feature somewhere in the application. But they never asked me about either of those. Maybe they do if you advance to the interview stage. They didn't give me any direct feedback other than saying they felt the application and writing were strong.

Re the video, thanks! I just have very basic editing skills. I'm sure a lot of the other submission videos were more professional and advanced, based on some of the writers bios and projects I took a look at.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Best of luck!

I'm applying to Imagine Impact for the first time (crazy, right?). Wondering if any veterans can help me with the following questions:

*For the writing sample, does it make the most sense to send a script that is in the same genre as that of the writing prompt? What if your best writing sample is in another genre (e.g., if I wanted to submit a comedy sample even though this is a thriller prompt)?

*If you've already completed a script that matches the writing prompt (in this case, female-led thriller), and you think it is your best writing sample, should you go ahead and submit it? Or do you think it is risky in case they do happen to not like the full script?

*Do you have any tips for what to say in the video pitches? For example, comparisons to similar movies that were hits?

I think it's in your best interest to enter the script they're asking for, in this case, the female led thriller. This Netflix deal isn't like previous Impact's where you get to shape your entry for 8 weeks with a shaper. So I think they really do want what they're asking for.

I've only thrown something in once, and I'm certain the video of mine sucked, but your idea of indicating what type of movie yours can be compared to sounds like a good idea.

              Good luck, Up!
