Re: slamdance
Here is the text of the e-mail I received from them:
Thanks for filling out an application for the 2005 Slamdance Screenplay
Competition!
This e-mail will help breakdown some of the details of this year's
competition for clarification:
1) Please remember, if you have filled out an online application, you still
need to send in your script and application by July 7th to be a part of this
year's competition (most of you have)
2) Your coverage and feedback is only available online, no hard copies will
be sent in the mail (unless you entered by April 1, 2005). Sign on to your
account with the screenplay id and password and hit the "feedback" button
next to the name of your script. It should be available within a month of
the script's arrival in this office (with the exception of rushed coverage).
Because we are still perfecting our online system, it is very important that
you let me know if you are unable to access your feedback.
3) The Skyline Screenwriting Award, sponsored by Andrew Lauren Productions,
is for the Best City Story. First prize includes $1,000 and a special
reading in New York during the IFP market. Please visit the website for
more information. For those of you who submitted before the Award was
officially offered, please return to your online account, and go to "update
application". There is now a check box for Skyline Award Qualification,
check "Yes"
If you have any trouble, or additional questions about the Skyline Award,
please e-mail: [email protected]
Semi-finalists will be contacted by e-mail the first of September. The
official announcement of the top ten will happen September 6, 2005
Thanks for choosing Slamdance, and good luck!

Re: slamdance
After reading the thread I popped-on over to Slamdance - and after typing various combinations of User/Password I finally broke my own secret code.
There it was. Pretty decent evaluation if I might add - of course, I might disagree with portions but they were well made and if someone takes note, it is certainly worth a close review to see if it needs addressing. All in all - a good evaluation. One very nice aspect was evaluation style of the Reader: positive, constructive and helpful without any trace of acerbic negativity. By the way the evaluation reads the script probably won't make the cut, even though it has done very well in other contests and a winner in one well respected contest. Ahhh - Subjectivity, the mother's milk of anxiety.
Good luck everyone.

Re: slamdance
Coverage I received seemed to like certain aspects of the script, but I'm like you guys -- don't think it put me past the cut... Oh well, the coverage was useful and seemed well thought out, so that'll help me with the arduous rewrite process.

Re: slamdance
I'm glad everyone else got something out of their feedback. My reader definately had something done to his cheerios the morning he read mine. The feedback starts out:
"The story. The idea of someone from our world entering another, aside from the Wizard of Oz, has never appealed to me."
Call me crazy bu maybe that should have called for a recusal. Needless to say the remainder of the feedback consisted of how my drama should have been a comedy along with a smattering of his/her favorite movies and a dash of "the situation is so absurd, that to present it as anything other than a comedy is to ask too much of the audience."
I simply take this as one of those times when the work fell into the wrong reader's hands. If there is anything constructive that came out of this it would be that I received a slap of reality after receiving several rounds of good news in other contests. Too bad I have nothing to sit down and work with from this particular feedback. A grain of salt, a grunt at the waste of an entry fee and on to the next hurdle.
Good luck to those who advance in this and other contests.Last edited by jmgogdog; 08-22-2005, 04:09 PM.

Re: slamdance
Question for those of you who've read your coverage... How are you getting to it? When I log in to look at my script, all I get is the genre, reader #, logline, strongest score (character) and weakest score (structure). Under the heading "feedback", there's a big, black box. I've tried contacting the website but that hasn't gotten me anywhere. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Re: slamdance
My feedback was just okay. Wasn't awful -- some points on structure gave me much-needed direction -- but it wasn't professional when compared with feedback I've received from other script services. Also had problems getting it. They had to fax it to me because I sent my script in early. Figured out what the problem was only after half a dozen phone calls. They said it was in the mail but I asked for a faxed copy anyway. The copy that was in the mail never arrived. I decided to forego re-submitting a rewrite because of these problems.
Good luck to everyone and hopefully slamdance can become more user friendly in subsequent competitions.
