  • Hunters: Right time to hunt Jaguar?

Or, more to the point, when was it in Brazil in the early 1920s? I'm somewhat doubtful any of you will know but I wouldn't mind being surprised.

You will get a wide range of knowledgeable answers here:

The main question is, What's the best time to hunt in the tropical rainforests and plains of Brazil?

Rainy season is out, because most roads there will be muddy and impassible, if not outright flooded. Swampy areas will be underwater. Underbrush will be at its thickest, mosquitoes will be swarming like crazy.

So my vote's for dry season.

Though it might be a little earlier than 1920 - there's a book about Teddy Roosevelt's foray into the Brazilian jungles to hunt jaguars. Think it was around December when he did it.

I assumed dry season, too. Thanks, guys.

Years ago, I read this book. It was one that my brother found at the local Goodwill.

I'm really surprised to see the price it's going for now. He's been gone for 10 years, but if I had any idea of it's value I'd have searched for it.

If you live in a city of any size, your local library might have a copy.

I don't remember any details about the time of year when he hunted. I seem to remember he used hounds- and a spear!
