  • Current U.S. Navy rules on alcohol

    Greetings all, in particular any currently serving or recently serving in Tthe Navy. Wondering is acohol allowed at events hat are held on a ship? What if it is a decommissioning celebration?

    It depends on the CO. I've seen drinking rules do a 180 based on changes in command. So, overseas at least, it's at the command level.

        A relative says the Navy doesn't allow drinking on the ship unless the ship provides the booze. But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

            I was active for 10 years and we were never allowed to have alcohol on the ship. We had several steel beach picnics underway, but no alcohol. We did have alcohol on shore based functions.
            It may be possible certain CO's allowed it but I never saw it.
