  • LA's Union Station

I'd like to stash a MacGuffin at Union Station. I know the storage lockers are no more but Google searches give me conflicting answers on whether or not ticketed passengers can store luggage, for how long and where, what the facility looks like.

Anyone with firsthand knowledge or familiarity with the station?

If you scroll down this page, luggage-checking hours are posted - unfortunately, no pix of area.

wrt the mcguffin, you could put it in the trunk of a car that's parked in the public parking garage at the east end of the station.

            Re: LA's Union Station

            Thanks, guys.

My Googling did turn up a few of those links, but some of them are a few years old and I wanted to be as current as possible.

RichmondWeems - I thought about calling - sometimes I do call places and tell them I'm a writer doing research and could they explain this or that. And sometimes they are helpful and sometimes they think I'm nuts and carefully end the conversation so as to avoid upsetting the crazy person. But it's worth a try.

What I'm really looking for is a detailed explanation of the process. Where does the luggage go, do you get a claim ticket, what does that look like, is the checked baggage in one big room or a series of cages, are there shelves, etc. So I was hoping someone knew someone who had actually checked a bag. But I may just have to call.

Research is great, and can inspire great moments. But honestly? Make the lockers work however they work best for your story. Even if what you write has no bearing on reality.

At Penn Station in New York and Chicago Union Station, the checked baggage room is a rather dimly lit area filled mainly with warehouse-type shelving for checked baggage and express shipments.
