  • A Midsummer Night's Dream

My wife and I just watched this on DVD. An amazingly lush production for what could only have been an art-house movie, start-studded cast notwithstanding (Christian Bale, Sophie Marceau, Kevin Kline, Bernard Hill, Rupert Everett, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Callista Flockhart among others).

And check this: Rupert Everett as King of the Fairies. How hard-to-believe is that? =]

Kevin Kline made it worth the price of admission. I was kind of counting on it.

Ah, come on, the best scene had Stanley Tucci, as Puck, riding a bicycle!

I confess, Sophie Marceau as a 19th-century Italian Hippolyta did prompt a second glance.

I've always wanted to see this. Love Kevin Kline when he's got his stage thespian game face on. I need to rent it.

Does Mickey Rooney do a cameo?

If he did, it escaped my notice, and he wasn't credited.

Yeah? You think Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Public will truck their Big-Mac-eatin' behinds down to the movie house and shell out six bucks to go see Shakespeare?

Sorry. Not when there's an Adam Sandler flick on the marquee.
