My advisor said I had to watch it, so I did. It didn't work for me. It seemed like the whole gay thing didn't really go anywhere and they showed snippets of Billy being a bully, but not enough to give any reason for killing him--Marty could have just stopped hanging out with him. Yeah, I know, Marty's a victim and doesn't have it in him to walk away, but they didn't show that.
Marty's girlfriend said she loved him on their second date (?) but the love was never earned (they spent a night together). She has no real reason to want Billy dead, but she leads the charge and then backs down.
Is this an editing room movie? Is that an actual term or just something I made up to indicate a movie that was edited a little too much and continuity is lost?
I'm reading the book Expensive People (Oates) another of my advisor's assignments, and so far I'm not overly impressed that either.
