My advisor said I had to watch it, so I did. It didn't work for me. It seemed like the whole gay thing didn't really go anywhere and they showed snippets of Billy being a bully, but not enough to give any reason for killing him--Marty could have just stopped hanging out with him. Yeah, I know, Marty's a victim and doesn't have it in him to walk away, but they didn't show that.

Marty's girlfriend said she loved him on their second date (?) but the love was never earned (they spent a night together). She has no real reason to want Billy dead, but she leads the charge and then backs down.

Is this an editing room movie? Is that an actual term or just something I made up to indicate a movie that was edited a little too much and continuity is lost?

I'm reading the book Expensive People (Oates) another of my advisor's assignments, and so far I'm not overly impressed that either.

I do not see any reason why BULLY should ever be recommended or judged a must see film.

        Loved it.
        Love all of Clark's films.
Somehow I can't find Ken Park. It was never released in the states nor is it on DVD.

        This isn't the Howard Johnson's.

I wish they'd play KIDS on cable.

What "gay thing" are you talking about?

              Re: Bully

The gay thing ... Billy and Marty hanging out at the gay club, making gay porn movies, Billy watching gay porn when he's raping Ali. The gay thing.

I didn't think it went anywhere. It had nothing to do with Billy being killed, nor did it have anything to do with getting Billy to a place where he could be killed. They used Ali to entice him to go out.

It just didn't seem to go anywhere and I wonder why it was included and so much time was spent on it.

I think that was to show that Bobby (not Billy) was possibly homosexual but hated himself for it. Thus, he takes Marty to a gay club, makes gay porn trying to get the fat guy interested and failing, and then we see him spitting at himself in the mirror...all because he can't stand the fact that he has these feelings.

This is where all his anger comes from. It's obviously not from his father who seems pretty normal and he has a good friend in Marty...so his rage stems from the fact that he hates himself and we need to know this so we can understand why he treats Marty so badly.

                    Re: Bully

i finally saw this movie on HBO last night and man...it was raw. i thought they did a good job building tension throughout the movie. i didnt get why marty's girlfriend was the main person that wanted bobby dead though...it seemed like all of them were high the entire movie from something other than weed. marty's girlfriend seemed weird, especially at the end when she starts telling everybody what they had done like it was cool.

the so called mafia dude was hilarious...i dont know if he was supposed to be funny but he definately was, lol. what was up with all the little kids at his house though? was he a child molestor or gay too? he was looking at one of them funny and patting his head. didnt get that.

any guy that lets his best friend bust in the room naked.... and slap his girlfriend, knocking her on the floor....and then punch him in the face while he's having sex....then saying "it's my turn bitch!"....has got to have some serious fear in his heart.

bobby didnt even look to be over a buck fifty....how the hell was he such a bully?

i think the gay thing worked perfect because it fueled his rage. it all tied in even when he raped Ali and tried to force her to watch the gay porn.
