  • The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

This is a film I never, ever forgot.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063050/

It's heavy duty, not a date movie or getting over someone movie. Best seen with a film pal or spouse/friend/sig other. It affects you like a punch in the solar plexis.

I love it and think it's one of the best ever made. But, what do I know?

    nothing, it seems.

You know what you like Andlary, and that's enough for me.

It's a good film for it's time and an incredible novel, as all of Carson McCullers' work. (Can't you tell I'm a big fan of Southern gothic?)

Well, it is for an American audience, I'm afraid.

With its ending, I doubt this movie would ever be greenlighted in this era. Some studio exec would be turned off by the physical disabilities, the emotional upheaval, etc.

That's why I think a renaissance in movie storytelling is in order.

I think a storyteller like Clint Eastwood could get away with this kind of movie today maybe. Certainly, no matinee idols in this one.
