  • Has anyone seen THE PASSENGER?

Antonioni's THE PASSENGER, with jack nicholson, is coming out on DVD.

Everything i read about this film seems to point toward it being a masterpiece.

i never even heard of this until a few weeks ago.

    Anyone seen it?

A beautiful, haunting, and existential meditation on modern life (but what else do you expect from Antonioni?).

Yes, that last shot is worthy of all the literature dedicated to it. One of Nicholson's most subtle and restrained performances.

It's in stores now. Saw it at Best Buy. Was going to pick it up because it has a Jack Nicholson commentary, but decided not to because of the $20 price tag. I'm too cheap to spend more than $10 on a nearly bare-bones single disc.

Saw it the week it first came out in NY. Terrific film.

Saw it when it first came out - one of my favorite movies. Great moving camera shots that seem impossible, a low-key thriller about starting life all over again as somebody else... who has more problems thn you do.

yeah, you can include me in the roll call of the usual suspects who've seen and loved this.

saw it on brit tv in the mid-80's so my recollection isn't all that detailed, but w.a.'s -

A beautiful, haunting, and existential meditation on modern life
            sums up my feelings too.

as bill says, one of the main themes is identity, something i've always been drawn to in my stories too.

look out for an early film role for steven berkoff in the london scenes. (not that you'd exactly miss him, lol.)

twobit, it is slow though, like, really slow. and much more of a mood piece than a narrative one. i remember you being very disappointed by "don't look now" (also mid-70's), with (if i recall correctly) the pacing being one of your issues with it. maybe it's one for you to netflix first?

              Very slow. Very boring.

I have this sitting on my TV stand at home along with The Twighlight Samurai and The Sorcerer. I *heart* netflix.

A beautiful film and, yes, very slow.
