I don't agree with that. Some comic book movies are really good. Spiderman, for example. Those are excellent. X-Men 2 was really good. But if comic book movies are going to be made, they better be made well. I don't want to see another disaster like the Hulk.

A better solution would be to just make good movies. After all...that's what everyone wants, right?

I also think that it's time for the marketing department, with their little demographic charts, and other such-like suits to butt out of the creative process and let writers and directors make GOOD movies (of any genre) without having some accountant in pinstripes waving their ledgers and howling about "but the demographic wants more blood!"
Thanks for explaining my thoughts in a more clear and calm manner than my enraged self has been able to.

If good horror films were made, the target audience might actually like them for something other than the body count. What does a 15 year-old have to compare today's "horror" movies to? What has he/she seen that's better? Nothing.

For what it's worth, I thought SESSION 9 was pretty damn good (although it may fall more into the psychological thriller category than horror). Lots of really memorable, eerie moments in that one.

I think the worst one is when you realize what Gordon did to you know who. That's one extreme case of stress.

The movie itself is weak in every way but then again, you're talking to a comic fanboy.
it was one of my favorite shows ever. i wish they stuck w/ it.

              Qaz,
Todd is in the process of making a new one. Different feel and much darker. I do agree-- after watching the series like zillions of times.

Agreed. I made a post about this a while back, too.

If you haven't already, check out Brad Anderson's last work "The Machinist". Not as eerie as S9 but still good nonetheless.

The Machinist is a wonder and does show how much an actor can be implicated in a movie: Christian Bale.
                  Thanks for bringing that up.

You're welcome. Now will you produce my screenplay?

Session 9 was better than most new horror movies. Not great, but had it's moments. The kid running down the hallway with the lights going out was particularly good.

Pray for me. I bought a ticket. Might be a winner.

Re: Please stop making "horror" movies.

The thing I noticed about the really great horror movies are that they might actually scare people. I know that sounds very generic, but it's also true. They showed that the guy next door might be a murderer (Halloween, Psycho), that a close member of your own family might kill you (The Shining), that it's not safe to be where nobody can save you (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), that where you think you're safe, you're really in more danger than if you were out in the open (Psycho), etc.

The best horror movies give you something to take home when you leave the theater. They give you a fear that can be realized in reality. Fear of having children (Rosemary's Baby, Eraserhead), fear of going to sleep (A Nightmare on Elm Street isn't great, but the idea is brilliant. We all have to sleep sometime.), fear of the devil (The Exorcist), fear of something that we all experience in real life. Watching some nutcase in a place where normal people seldom, if ever tread hack up people we don't know...that's not scary. I cannot encounter that during my regular day-to-day life.

These new "horror" movies only care about two things: making money and having a high, bloody body count. If they cared more about affecting the audience's mind instead of their wallet, then they might produce not only a good film, but high box office numbers as well. Make something good and people will see it.

Saw had a great idea...would you cut off your own leg to save your life? That question is the reason why people went to see that movie. Too bad that one idea was the only good thing about Saw. The execution (no pun intended) of the idea blowed like gale force winds.

Yeah, so the point of this reply was to point out the obvious..."horror" movies disappear ten seconds after you leave the theater like a fart in the wind. HORROR movies stay with you long after you see them.
